Paola Cortellesi to be jury president at Rome Film Fest: “Grateful to the festival”

Paola Cortellesi will be the president of the jury of the Rome Film Fest , scheduled from October 15 to 25. The director returns to where she began the extraordinary journey that was that of There's Still Tomorrow , the record-breaking film with which the actress debuted behind the camera. With 36.8 million at the Italian box office and 5.4 million viewers, There's Still Tomorrow was not only the most viewed film of 2023 but also a true social phenomenon that overtook Italy, brought people back to the theater who hadn't been to the cinema for years, and became a case in the world.

“I am honored to have been asked to preside over the jury of the Rome Film Fest,” said Paola Cortellesi. “A festival that over the years has managed to build a strong and engaging identity, becoming a point of reference for Italian and international cinema, and to which I am deeply grateful. I thank the President of the Cinema per Roma Foundation, Salvatore Nastasi , and the Artistic Director, Paola Malanga , for their trust and for this invitation that I accept with a sense of responsibility and great enthusiasm.”
The story of Delia, played by Cortellesi herself, and her bad marriage, made of fights and silences, is a story we have heard many times but in the directorial debut of the actress it has become a new song, sung all over the world. After having been successful in half of Europe (in France over 4 million euros in takings, the most viewed Italian film in the last ten years), in the United States, the film landed in China for the women's rights celebration, March 8, becoming the fourth most viewed Italian film ever in the country.

For Paola Cortellesi, therefore, it is a return to the Fest where the film, in addition to inaugurating the edition, also took home the Audience Award , the Special Mention for Best First Work and the Special Jury Award. “We are inaugurating the twentieth edition of the Rome Film Fest with an announcement that makes us very proud – said Salvatore Nastasi – Paola Cortellesi will be an authoritative and competent president of the jury and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for having accepted our invitation”. “After Marjane Satrapi, Gael García Bernal and Pablo Trapero , the Competition of the Festa del Cinema will see another extraordinary President of the jury like Paola Cortellesi – explained Paola Malanga – It is a source of great satisfaction for us to welcome her back to the Festa after having hosted, as the opening film, There's Still Tomorrow , her dazzling directorial debut, which also became an international success, welcomed with enthusiasm all over the world. Paola Cortellesi is an artist of great sensitivity and exceptional talent: we are certain that her attentive, profound, innovative gaze constitutes a splendid guarantee for all the films that will make up the Competition of this twentieth edition”.
